MODTAGE design creates custom tailored interiors, specializing in combining modern design components with vintage appeal from objects & architectural elements of the past.

While working to understand the personality, functional requirements & aesthetic preferences of the client, each space is carefully considered and planned. Offering a full spectrum of design services from conceptual design through final installation, MODTAGE design scope of work can range from a complete gut and remodel of the interiors to putting the final touches on furnishings and accessories.

Gretchen Murdock

Principal & Founder

MODTAGE design Founder, Gretchen Murdock, delivers sophisticated and unique interiors, considering the needs of each distinctive client and the architectural integrity of the project.

With over two decades of experience in Interior Design and having worked for some of the leading architectural firms in San Francisco, Gretchen has a thorough understanding of the relationship between Architecture & Interiors. Her portfolio of clients range from leading innovators and founders to financial executives and local families.

Inspired by her travels around the world, Gretchen's aesthetic has been greatly influenced by each country she has had the opportunity to visit, live and work within. Gretchen is especially fond of clean & polished design influenced by Scandinavian and Japanese aesthetics, bold patterns and color emanating from the winding cobblestone streets of Spain, the effortless elegance of Parisian style, and the precision of Italian and German designs.  She is known for the unique ability to create a distinctive design for each client.

Having won numerous awards for her design work, Gretchen has earned the praise of local and national press including the San Francisco Chronicle, Dwell, Architectural Digest & The New York Times.
